Kate SpadeYesterday I posted about my favorite little celebrity spawn, Violet Affleck, and what looked like her book cover purse. Well, in response, my lovely friend Maggie shared with me a link to a Vanity Fair article about a new Kate Spade line featuring… classic book covers!

It’s clearly a trend sweeping the nation giving new meaning to the term “book bag.”

The collection features the clutches pictured here and will be released one per month, starting in August, “in a sort of Book-of-the-Month Club” type situation. The idea is that girls will not only wear them, but also collect and display them… sort of like with actual books. The Vanity Fair article also shares:

“We wanted to pretend we had our own publishing house,” said creative director Deborah Lloyd of her inspiration for the bags. They designed all the clutch “cover” art in-house and were able to get permission to use The Great Gatsby, Emma, The Importance of Being Earnest, Great Expectations, and A Tale of Two Cities because they were written before lawyers thought about licensing potential.

I think it’s an awesome idea. With Kate Spade behind them, these are book purses I would actually wear. I’d take a Great Gatsby clutch. Seriously, I’d take one if anyone’s offering.

In the meantime, Violet Affleck was once again rocking her own version of the book cover bag. Isn’t she great (even if she looks sort of like she’s throwing a fit)?
