Yesterday, The Millions reported that there is a casting call out for “10-13 year old Caucasian males” to play the lead role in the upcoming film adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer’s Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
Though I don’t remember the specifics about it, I did read Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, and I believe my mom did as well. However, this latest news makes me think of a different Jonathan Safran Foer book my mom and I read: Everything Is Illuminated. After we finished, we rented the movie. It’s a pretty weird book and a pretty weird movie, but what was really weird was the difference between the book and the movie. I won’t give anything away, but my mom and I were both quite confused by the fact that a major point in the book was completely turned around in the movie. It certainly gave us something to talk about.
Now there’s another Jonathan Safran Foer movie coming out. Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock are supposedly attached to the film. It sounds promising. I may have to see it, but perhaps as a refresher I should take a another look at the book. Then again, if it’s anything like that last movie, knowing what happens in the book is irrelevant.
