Goodbye Borders… For Real This Time

Borders ClosingIt’s no secret that Borders has been struggling the last few months. There was that whole bankruptcy thing and then that shutting down of most of its stores. Yet still, some Borders lived on.

Not anymore. Borders is preparing to liquidate and with that it will close its remaining 399 stores and lay off 10,700 employees. Even though Borders has always played second fiddle to Barnes and Noble for me, I’m sad to see it go and sad to see so many book people out of work. Border’s loss is a loss for the whole publishing industry.

Everyone, go buy a book.
