When it comes to picking the best of 2011, I’m starting with an easy category. I call it easy not because there is a clear favorite (though there is), but because there are a lot less audiobooks to choose from than books. In 2011, I listened to nine complete audiobooks.
If you read this blog at all, you’ll know that far and away my favorite of the year has to be Bossypants by Tina Fey, read by Tina Fey. She made me laugh on the way to work. I don’t normally laugh on the way to work so you know it’s good. I basically drove everyone in my life crazy talking about this audiobook and if you somehow missed out you can catch up here, here, here, and here… to name a few.
But if I had to choose a second favorite, I’d have a slightly harder time. I think it is probably a tie between Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand and Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus. Unbroken was a long, but captivating true story of a Louis Zamperini, a pilot whose plane goes down during WWII and his amazing tale of survival. In the completely opposite direction is The Night Circus, a wonderful tale of dueling magicians. I’d highly recommend them both… and Bossypants. Let’s not forget about Bossypants.
