I can’t believe I’ve forgotten to tell you about our latest book club pick. Lexi and Maxi have chosen The Lover’s Dictionary by David Levithan for this month’s read. I’d never heard of it before the email went out but I promptly had Google fill me in.
It turns out I should have heard of The Lover’s Dictionary… for many reasons. One of which is that David Levithan is kind of a big deal. He’s an editor at Scholastic and a well known young adult author who co-wrote Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist and Will Grayson, Will Grayson.
The Lover’s Dictionary is definitely a uniquely told story. According to the publisher website, in it “the nameless narrator of David Levithan’s The Lover’s Dictionary constructs the story of a relationship as a dictionary. Through these sharp entries, he provides an intimate window into the great events and quotidian trifles of coupledom, giving us an indelible and deeply moving portrait of love in our time.”
It turns out that my coworker (the same one who lent me Overseas) has already read and loved The Lover’s Dictionary. Even better for me, she has a copy that she is lending me. And this one isn’t from the library so I have infinite time to read it! Or, you know, until June 20 when book club will meet.
