Walking to Defeat ALS

Walk to Defeat ALSThis Saturday, I will be participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS. Also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe.A good friend of the family has ALS and I have seen these devastating effects firsthand.

This will be the third year that Robin’s Walkers, named for my mom, will be a part of the race. The money raised from the event goes towards ALS research. I would really appreciate any donation to this great cause. To donate just visit:

The Walk To Defeat ALS: Complete!

ALS WalkIn all the hubbub of my dad and brother being in town and lots and lots of eating, I forgot to tell you about the ALS Walk.

Saturday morning, Robin’s Walkers headed out to Hudson River Park to complete the 5K and show our support for people with ALS. It didn’t rain, which was a success in and of itself, but the bigger success was that together we raised $2,828.49!

So with that I can only say thank you! Thank you to everyone who donated! (And no this isn’t my way of copping out of writing thank you notes… they’re coming… eventually). Thank you for supporting me as I try to support those with ALS.

And Reading for Robin is Walking for ALS

Well, I will be walking for ALS, which is pretty much the same as Reading for Robin walking for ALS.

In recent weeks, in the wake of so many people doing so many nice things for me, I’ve felt a strong desire to do something nice for others. I skimmed the website of a New York charity that emails me regularly, but I wanted to do something that I really believe in. As it turns out, I found something I really believe in… and my mom would have really believed in too.

On May 15, 2010 I will be participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS in New York. My mom’s close friend has ALS and my mom would have done anything she could for her. This is the best I can do. I’ve rounded up a team of my friends and boyfriend to join me, and my friend Carley has named us Robin’s Walkers. Come May we will be walking the 5K in New York together (and hopefully in tie dye t-shirts).

If you’d like to contribute to my fundraising effort, please click here and follow the instructions to donate. But no pressure!
